Housing a permanent collection, Reflecting Canberra, and a variety of local, national and international exhibitions, CMAG provides a refreshing insight to the integration of social history and the visual arts.

21 June - 21 September
Gallery 2/3
A major survey exhibition of Jan Brown’s sculpture and works on paper, revealing her importance in Canberra’s cultural history as an artist, teacher and mentor; selected from the artist’s substantial 2008 gift to CMAG, spanning her 50-year career.
"Jan is passionate about her role as a teacher. She is fondly remembered by her many students for her generosity in sharing her own substantial knowledge and in drawing out the best in the students’ own efforts. She is not an ‘easy touch’ however, and frankness and forthrightness, imbued with sensitive critical balance, characterise her teaching and her approach to art generally".
Peter Haynes,
Director ACT Museums and Galleries
The current exhibition, which the Canberra Museum and Gallery (CMAG) is privileged to present, showcases Jan’s sculptural and graphic works. Her generosity of spirit to the Canberra community is clearly exemplified here in that all but a handful of the sculptures and the graphic work on display have been donated by her to CMAG. This significant collection will remain a key resource for future research and highlights the achievements of one of Canberra’s great teachers, mentors and artists.
