Music In The Garden

Celebrate Spring with a delightful afternoon of music in the garden at Calthorpes’ House. Bring a picnic to enjoy on the lawn whilst you listen to ensembles and solo performers from the ANU School of Music.

Touring the Textiles

Saturday 15 August › 11.00am – 1.00pm

The wardrobes at Calthorpes’ House are full of fabulous fashions. Hidden away in cupboards, dressing tables and drawers, these fragile survivors illustrate the lives of the Calthorpe women who wore and used them. Join us for a special tour where you can see these fragile survivors in more detail.

Everything Stops for Tea

Sunday 10 May › 1.00 – 4.00pm

A special Mother’s Day celebration – share family memories and melodies, join in a sing-a-long around the pianola and then stop for tea when the clock strikes three. A self-serve afternoon tea will be available for all visitors.

Cost: Free for mothers and grandmothers, otherwise normal admission

From Blandfordia to Red Hill: An Architectural Walking Tour

Sunday 17 May › 2.00 – 4.00pm

John Armes, Assistant Director: Historic Places ACT, leads a walking tour around the streets of Red Hill. John will focus on the architectural history of the suburb and discuss how residents are blending heritage, modern living and a range of particular architectural tastes and fashions. This is a unique opportunity to explore the exteriors of some of Canberra’s most exclusive properties. Wear your walking shoes as we will cover a distance of approximately 3 kilometres.

Open House for Senior Citizens

A visit to Calthorpes’ House will take you back to Canberra’s earliest years. Share your memories over a cup of tea, wander through the 1920s garden and join in a sing-along around the pianola. In association with ACT Seniors Week.

It’s harvest time in the garden. Join Jean Abbott to learn some of the tricks to making the finest jams and preserves. Taste some of Jean’s specialities and learn how to preserve your own fruit and vegetables.
