Bob Graham is one of Australia's most eminent authors. His picture books, loved by generations of families, have won national and international awards throughout his 30-year career.

This exhibition explores and celebrates his creative practice.

A unique opportunity to see precious sketch books, manuscripts, memorabilia, and illustrations from books including Greetings from Sandy Beach; Max; Let's Get a Pup; and How to Heal a Broken Wing. These works and objects have been carefully selected from the artist's studio and from the Lu Rees Archives, University of Canberra, a treasure trove of Australian children's literature.

SCHOOL HOLIDAY WORKSHOP: Zig, zag, frieze
Thu 17 July: 10am-2pm (5 to 8 years)
Fri 18 July: 10am-2pm (8 to 12 years)
Bob Graham's illustrations highlight everyday life themes of empathy, spirit and hope from a child's perspective. His works also include issues that move and inspire local communities, families and friends. Children will explore these themes by engaging collaboratively as well as individually through construction, printmaking and collage.

SITE VISIT: Lu Rees Archives
Sat 19 July, 2-3.30pm
Go behind the scenes at the Lu Rees Archives at the University of Canberra to discover their incredible collection relating to Australian Children's literature. See where many of Bob Graham's incredible drawings and sketches are housed and cared for by the Archives.
Free, bookings essential, meet at the Lu Rees Archives, Building 8 - the Library, University of Canberra, Bruce, afternoon tea included.

CMAG on Sunday: Book Week Special - Connect to reading
Sun 17 August: 12.00-4.00pm
Join us for an afternoon of FREE activities for children aged 3 to 8 years, based on books shortlisted for the Picture Book and Early Childhood Book of the Year by the Children’s Book Council of Australia. Bookings open Sunday 13 July.

ARTIST'S TALK: Bob Graham
Sat 17 May: 1-2pm
Join author and illustrator Bob Graham to hear stories behind his stories and insights into his work and this exhibition; full of treasures from his studio and the Lu Rees Archives.

T IS FOR TODDLER: Cluck, quack, woof
Wed 21, Thu 22 and Fri 23 May: 9.30-10.45am and 11.45am-1.00pm
Inspired by the exhibition A bird in the hand: a Bob Graham retrospective children aged 2-3 years and their carers will discover the world of author and illustrator Bob Graham through a variety of hands-on, guided activities in the CMAG studio.
$5 per child (ACT M&G Members and eligible concession card holders free); bookings are essential and open Sun 27 April.

CMAG ON SUNDAY: Bob’s your artist
Sun 1 June: 12.30–1.30 and 1.30–2.30 (4 to 8 years) and 2.30–3.30 (8 to 12 years)
Join us for an afternoon of structured workshops, led by local artist Jacqueline Bradley. After exploring the exhibition A bird in the Hand: a Bob Graham retrospective children will create their own Bob Graham inspired art in the CMAG Studio.
$5 per child (ACT M&G Members and eligible concession card holders free); bookings open second Sunday of the month.
